Demographic Challenges for Human Resource Management and Labor Market Policies - A German-Japanese Comparison (Human Resource Management und Arbeitsmarktpolitik vor der demographischen Herausforderung - Ein deutsch-japanischer Vergleich)

Abriss

 German and Japanese populations are rapidly aging. By the year 2025 the ratio of the population aged over 65 is expected to reach 24% in Germany and 29% in Japan. This demographic development will have huge consequences for the private and public sectors. And because the labor population is shrinking in both countries the efficient utilization of human labor will become a particularly important challenge.
This conference analyzes the challenges that an aging workforce imposes on public and company policies in Germany and Japan. These issues shall be approached from five different angles. In the first part we will explore the implications of aging workforces on labor markets and public policy responses. The second part focuses on the implications for production systems, innovation processes and human resource development, and the third part discusses changes in employment practices. Finally, we will address the challenges for labor relations and close the conference with a panel discussion of distinguished company representatives.
